Dueling Arts International
provides exciting and unique training opportunities worldwide in the
art of theatrical combat and other related theatrical movement arts
forms. The training is offered through intensive Workshops
designed for large and small groups, as well as private training and
Apprenticeships,
and is offered to the professional actor and non-actor alike.
Training may include, but is not limited to:
- Theatrical and historical use of western European weapons such
as: Smallsword, Single Rapier, Rapier & Dagger, Case of Rapiers,
Sword & Cloak, Sword & Buckler, Sword & Shield, Medieval
Broadsword, Knife, Quarterstaff and theatrical Firearms.
- Unarmed theatrical combat, including basic stunts, rolls and falls,
and Aikido.
- The Chinese art of T'ai Chi Ch'uan including Chinese weapons such
as: Double-edged T'ai Chi sword, Falchion (Chinese Broadsword) and
Staff.
- Laban Movement Analysis and Bartenieff Fundamentals of Movement.



Dueling Arts International emphasizes four elements
in performance work:
- Appropriate mix of theatricality and history in the depiction
of fights and violence as dictated by the script and/or stage direction
- Necessary integration of the actors' character choices within
the performance of the fight given the context of the production
- The actors' need to depict and easily control what they are conveying
to the audience through their physical choices
- Safe execution of fight choreography and all physical maneuvers
Dueling Arts International focuses training upon
the individual to encourage students to realize their unique mental
and physical possibilities. Students will gain multiple health benefits,
including improved balance, flexibility, mobility and stamina, mental
and physical relaxation, and an acute awareness of themselves and their
world.
